This Act may be cited as the Equal Pay Act 1970.

In this Act the expressions “man” and “woman” shall be read as applying to persons of whatever age.

For the purposes of this Act a woman is under a disability—

in the case of proceedings in England and Wales, if she is a minor or of unsound mind (which has the same meaning as in section 38(2) of the Limitation Act 1980); or
in the case of proceedings in Scotland, if she has not attained the age of sixteen years or is incapable within the meaning of the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.

This Act shall not extend to Northern Ireland.
