Part 10: Custodial sentences — CHAPTER 3: Adults aged under 21

Where a person aged under 21 is convicted of—

murder, or
any other offence the sentence for which is fixed by law as life imprisonment,

the court must sentence the offender to custody for life.

Subsection (1) does not apply where the offender is liable to be detained under section 259 (detention at Her Majesty's pleasure for offender under 18).
