A local authority may, with the approval of the Minister, provide a temporary supply of medicine and medical assistance for the poorer inhabitants of their district.

A local authority may provide nurses for attendance on patients suffering from any infectious disease in their district in cases where suitable hospital accommodation is not available, or removal to hospital is likely to endanger the patient's health, and may make charges for the services of nurses so provided.
